New Jets OC Marty Mornhinweg's offenses have ranked in the top ten in yards-per-carry average eight times in Mornhinweg's 13 seasons as an NFL head coach or offensive coordinator.
The Jets are trying to get more athletic on the O-Line because Mornhinweg loves outside runs. "We're putting in more perimeter runs which has been Marty's thing, get some speed out there," coach Rex Ryan explained. "... We're pulling those guys and I think we are more athletic, especially at that guard spot." New feature back Chris Ivory has plenty of speed to beat linebackers to the edge.

I read a film breakdown of our new OG, Peterman, and pulling is his specialty.

Peterman was also awful last season. I doubt he starts, unless injuries happen. I think Winters will win a starting guard spot and Colon will get the other, his problem is staying healthy.

And Ivory/Goodson were 1-2 in elusiveness last season. They both have speed to break out big runs, neither of their problems is talent, its staying healthy.

I wouldn't contend that Ivory is blazing fast, but it looks like he ran a 4.47 in college which is a little slower than Peterson and Ray Rice, but faster than Lesean McCoy and Arian Foster. Overall he looks to be about the same speed as Lynch and Trent Richardson, and at 6'0, 222, he has similar power to boot. He definitely isn't slow though.

Yeah I mean i don't think ivory is slow by any means but 40 times are deceiving at times. Mccoy just looks fast and plus he has amazing agility and change of direction skills. he is a game breaker. So was westbrook when he was an eagle. Morrningweg has had some really talented RBs plus mobile QBs (mcnabb then vick) so his RBs have always done good. Ivory is a average back. the saints used him as a pounder up the middle. he is a tough runner but he doens't have the game breaker speed to the outside like mccoy IMO. the RB battle in camp should be interesting. I think al 4 have a good chance to win the job

He has broken off runs to the outside before... He has way more talent than Shonn Greene, its just about him staying healthy.

Look at him break that run to the outside for a long TD run.

green was a pretty average RB. i mena had had some nice runs bowling people over once he got into the 2nd level but didn't have the burst/ability on his own to get there. needed good blocks. his TD run against the chargers in the playoffs was awesome though. I didn't mind seeing greene walk. he got paid too much IMO. Plus i like powell and mcknight and brining in ivory and goodson seems like good competition. but the thing about ivory is he is injury prone and also why did NO feel the need to draft ingram in the 1ts when they had ivory and PT, then trade off ivory. they must have not been sold on him IMO

I don't think NO realized what they had in Ivory when they drafted Ingram. I think we can all agree that Ivory has the size/talent/speed to be successful and productive, the question is whether or not he can stay healthy.

Something to keep in mind when considering combine 40s is they are in shorts. When you add all the pads and helmet bigger stronger backs will loose less than a lighter guy. In other words a 5'9" 180 lb WR may loose lets say .5 of a second and a 6' 220lb HB may only loose .25. I am pulling those #s out of the air but for explanation reasons I used them. He is plenty fast. Not Chris Johnson fast by any means but he can play if he stays on the field.

The reason why the Saints let Ivory go is because he doesn't catch the ball. He was expendable in their offense. BTW, I think McKnight is not going to make the team.

I can't see us getting rid of him. even if we only keep him as a KR. plus he is our only back that can catch. he has a nice role as a 3rd down back/ KR in our team. maybe even PR too.
