One rookie minicamp doesn't make a quarterback but there are more rumblings that Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez might not be around at the start of the 2013 season.

Brian Costello of the New York Post reports Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith was impressive during the two days of the mini-camp open to the media. His passes had great zip on them and he looked more decisive as the practices went on as he got more comfortable in the offense. The 22-year-old was even more impressive off the field. He held players’ only meetings at the team hotel to learn the plays and handled the media like a longtime pro. You can tell from talking to people around the team during this weekend’s rookie mini-camp that many in the organization are smitten with new quarterback Geno Smith. It’s beginning to look more and more like the starting job is his to lose.

The best scenario for the Jets is: Smith shows he’s capable, Garrard proves he’s healthy and another team suffers an injury at quarterback during the preseason. Then, the Jets could trade Sanchez to the quarterback-needy team — after agreeing to eat about $6 million of the $8.75 million coming to him.

Costello isn't the only one who believes Sanchez could be on the way out. According to Peter King of Sports Illustrated, if Geno Smith wins the Jet starting job to start the season, he wouldn't be remotely surprised if the Jets traded Mark Sanchez for a low-round draft pick or cut him before Week 1.

Yup, why don't they pay any attention to the giants instead of always focusing on us?

When revis held out that all we heard about, victor cruz has been holding out because the giants low-balled him and not even a peep form the media about it. WTF?

ROFLMAO!!! Wow.......the media needs to seriously stop riding us. The team would be incredibly stupid to trade sanchez for a low round draft pick just before week 1. These media guys seriously need to stop making $hit up just to fill space. The Jets are just more exciting and sell more papers apparently than the Gints.

If he isn't week 1 starter, he has to be moved.

I think it's pretty obvious that if a team agrees to cover some of his salary, the Jets will move him. The question is, who would cover his salary?

I'm still wondering why everyone hates on Sanchez so much considering how much this franchise has ruined the kid. He had potnetial but the team did far more damage to him than he did to the team. Had he not had to learn 4 offenses in 5 seasons, had no sense of consistency at WR to throw to, a rag tag O-line for a couple years including a revolving door that allowed him to be brutalized for a year, last year a complete JOKE for an offensive scheme that never allowed him to get ANY kind of rhythym started because if he did, he was pulled to allow the biggest joke in the NFL to be thrown in there for a 3 or 4 yard run (if that).

Had the front office NOT broken up the flight crew, Sanchez would likely be a different QB and be much more productive, but it was necessary to do so because we couldn't afford everyone unfortunately thanks to the FO deciding other people were more important until they weren't.

i actually agree with you. i think sanchez could have evolved into a good QB had we not screwed up so badly for the past 2 years. had we kept holmes and BE together, invested in some o-line (wayne hunter? ewww) not traded for tebow, and had 1 offense with a good OC for him to learn. but now he's damaged and its probably time to move on. we have a good OC now, a new "future QB" and are rebuilding.

This can surely be put to bed now that Garrard is retiring. Our QB's this season will be Sanchez starting (initially), Geno & McElroy. Sanchez will last a few weeks, then the reigns will be handed over to the future of the franchise. I would honestly LOVE to see what Geno brings tot he table Week 2 against the Gaytriots to give him an early test.
