Jetsman05 Icon : (Yesterday, 05:16 AM) is that a suggestion that Favre was a better QB than Peyton?
santana Icon : (Yesterday, 08:05 AM) No it's a suggestion that passing records today are a bit skewed by the modern rules

Jetsfan0099 Icon : (Today, 01:35 PM) Jets to sign Kerley to a 4 year extension
Jetsfan115 Icon : (Today, 01:43 PM) he's a good slot WR, i'm assuming we got him cheap, can't complain
Jetsfan115 Icon : (Today, 01:43 PM) we need to lock up wilk. but if harvin pans out, were set at WR for the next 4 years as decker, kerly, and harvin are all under contract.
Jetsfan115 Icon : (Today, 01:44 PM) Ivory is good too, we need a speed back (CJ sin't cuting it) and some o-line and mainly a QB
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (Today, 01:46 PM) Our offensive weapons aren't bad, need a qb and ol
Jetsfan115 Icon : (Today, 02:09 PM) they were bad when decker was hurt and it was nelson and kerly starting and salas in the slot
HarlemHxC814 Icon : (Today, 02:40 PM) That damn street thug Kerley
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (Today, 04:18 PM) Yeah because Nelson is terrible, Salas is no more than a #4 kind of wr
HarlemHxC814 Icon : (Today, 04:55 PM) Can we focus more on this street thug who is stealing $16 million from the team!?
Jetsfan115 Icon : (Today, 05:05 PM) salas shouldn't be on an NFL roster. #4 WR is a bit generous
santana Icon : (Today, 06:00 PM) extending kerley is a great move. i could see another team poaching him off the roster real fast.
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (Today, 06:17 PM) Salas isn't that bad, hes made some plays for us this season.
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (Today, 06:17 PM) You know who shouldn't be on a NFL roster, Salim Hakim. IDK why hes still on the Jets, he was TERRIBLE at KR and has no value as a WR. Waste of a roster spot IMO
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (Today, 06:18 PM) Percy Harvin will be our KR now, I would imagine. Hes electric at it
Jetsfan115 Icon : (Today, 06:48 PM) yeah hakim is another one i don't understand. he is even attempting to play WR and got benched at KR

Jets targeting free agent receivers Maclin and Sanders

It's hardly a surprise the Jets want to add some pop to their passing game, since it ranked 31st in the league last year.

And they're apparently thinking about doing so in free agency.

According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the Jets are eyeballing free agent wide receivers Jeremy Maclin and Emmanuel Sanders, in hopes of upgrading the position.

Giving some help to quarterback Geno Smith makes sense, as the Jets only got seven touchdowns out of all their wideouts last year, fewer than 17 individual receivers in the league.

Cutting Santonio Holmes will add more than $8 million to their free agency war chest.

Maclin could be a value buy after tearing his ACL in Eagles training camp last summer, and he has experience with offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg.

Sanders established career highs in receptions, yards and touchdowns for the Steelers last year, after getting a restricted free agent offer sheet from the Patriots which was matched.

WR: Sanders, Maclin, Kerley, Nelson
TE: Ebron, Cumberland, Sudfeld

I'll take it! Draft another WR to develop and the offense weapons seem to be set.

I highly doubt we get both sanders and maclin. most likely we get 1 of them, keep holmes at a cheaper rate and have kerly, nelson, and hill to round out the top 5. and probably draft 1 more

They aren't keeping Holmes. They supposedly have already factored his cap savings into potential offseason decisions. I wouldn't want Holmes back anyway. If they only get one of Sanders/Maclin I'd rather get Jordan Matthews in the 2nd and Devin Street in the 4th

What's the cap penalty if we cut him? If it's in the millions why not restructure to pay him what the hit would be. Let him compete for a job. If that's the case it would be a zero net salary hit. The only negative is he would take a roster spot.

The Jets save $8.25 mil by releasing Holmes, hes 100% gone. The Jets won't want to deal with him anymore.

I understand that. If we cut him we have 2.5 million in dead cap. Why not offer him a one year deal at the 2.5 and have him. He will not get that in FA. It would be good for both parties.

Year Salary Cap Number Dead Money if Cut Cap Savings if Cut
2010 $1,400,000 $0 $1,400,000
2011 $3,250,000 $15,000,000 ($11,750,000)
2012 $9,250,000 $20,250,000 ($11,000,000)
2013 $12,500,000 $11,250,000 $1,250,000
2014 $10,750,000 $2,500,000 $8,250,000
2015 $9,250,000 $1,250,000 $8,000,000

If they cut him and offer him $2.5M, does that replace the dead money or go on top of the dead money? Or do you mean just redo his contract completely? I don't even know if the FO can do that.

I would assume it would be a zero net contract. In other words it would not effect the cap. I don't know enough about the CBA rules but it makes sense.

Holmes is gone even if we could have him for 500k hes still gone. This guy didn't know when to shut his damn jaw and just play. It makes me sad to see him turn into this in 2010 it looked like hes was going to be a awesome Jet.

@AdamSchefter - WR Jeremy Maclin and Eagles have reached agreement on a one-year deal, per source.
