Jetsfan115 Icon : (29 April 2016 - 09:02 PM) Or giving up on geno
Jetsfan115 Icon : (29 April 2016 - 09:02 PM) I said the rumor was they liked him more then cook
Mr_Jet Icon : (29 April 2016 - 11:35 PM) I know I'm biased, but I've seen them both play. Cook is just better. Hackenberg had one good year. Cook has won more games, played in big games and won them....whatever, its done now so no sense on dwelling on it I guess. I just don't see the appeal in Hackenberg, nice kid, but I always thought he was really overrated. Oh well. I would have taken Kevin Hogan over Hackenberg.
azjetfan Icon : (30 April 2016 - 03:47 PM) From what I have read so far he had a great freshman year under Obrien in a pro style offense. At that point some considered him the next Andrew luck. Then Obrien left and they shifted to a spread under new HC who did poor job bringing in talent. He was also sacked and hit a million times. Might be shell shocked.
Smedsthejet Icon : (01 May 2016 - 06:17 AM) But Chan Gailey runs a spread system - still, I'm comfortable with the Hackenberg pick seeing as Gailey will develop the system to suit his strength... I'm just glad that we passed on Paxton Lynch in the first...we still desperately need Fitz to re-sign though
azjetfan Icon : (01 May 2016 - 07:14 PM) From my understanding the spread in college and the spread in NFL are not the same principals. I really think it was more of a talent issue and getting sacked 80 times in 2 years that did him in. I have no idea if he will make it. I don't follow college ball enough to to know. Theses are just things I read in articles.
Jetsfan115 Icon : (02 May 2016 - 10:24 AM) I'm stoked about getting peake in the 7th round. that was a steal. he was a projected 3rd rounder. wonder what scared teams away

Jetsfan0099 Icon : (03 May 2016 - 05:16 PM) The Jets had Hackenberg as their #2 rated QB
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (03 May 2016 - 05:16 PM) Apparently, they loved Golf and tried to trade up. When that failed, their #2 QB was Hackenberg, they fell in love with his football IQ
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (03 May 2016 - 05:17 PM) It would be a mistake to start him right away, hes a guy who needs development. He has the talent, and apparently he has good leadership skills and football IQ. His mechanics are off though

New York Jets: C- Grade
You can't exactly call this a successful offseason for the Jets. Rex Ryan wanted to bring back Darrelle Revis, but arch rival New England stole him away. Ryan then wanted Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Antonio Cromartie, yet New York whiffed on both and now has nothing at corner. Meanwhile, the front office added a No. 1 receiver for Geno Smith. Except Eric Decker is not a No. 1 option. He was a product of Peyton Manning, so he won't be nearly as effective in his new home.

Free agency wasn't a total disaster though. The Jets brought back Willie colon cheaply and inked Breno Giacomini to a reasonable deal. Of course, Giacomini is a downgrade from Austin Howard, who was yet another player to get away from Ryan.

UPDATE: The signing of Philadelphia's former quarterback drops this to a C-. He will fire yet another coach (Rex Ryan will be added to the extensive list of coaches he has canned) and will destroy the confidence of Geno Smith. Not that Smith had much hope in the first place, but the Jets wasted $5 million on this signing.

NFL Free Agent Grades:
Willie Colon, G, Jets (re-sign) - A-
Breno Giacomini, OT, Seahawks - B
Calvin Pace, DE/OLB, Jets (re-sign) - B
Jeff Cumberland, TE, Jets (re-sign) - B
Eric Decker, WR, Broncos - C
QBDK, QB, Eagles - D

Sounds like someone hates Mike Vick.
Sal Paolantonio commenting on the difference in the Ryan and Mangini atmospheres in the building:
"It's like going from Alcatraz to Dorney Park."

It is better to destroy than create what is meaningless, so the picture will not be finished.

I agree the vick signing is awesome. as i said. This guy hates vick so he's completely biased when it comes to anything vick related. but outside of that, I have to agree. We still don't have a number 1 WR, we lost out on all 3 CBs we targeted and now don't have a #1 CB either. O-line got downgraded and it was weak to begin with.

Walter football doesn't know shit.

I think getting Eric Decker at the cost of what high end #2 WRs are getting was a great get, hes not getting #1 money. Hes a high end #2 at the very least.

Signing Vick was great, we needed a veteran QB and he knows our offense already and has played great in that offense. If Geno can't get it done he can sit his ass down and watch Vick play. (until he gets hurt)

Walter Football clearly has a bias against Vick. There is no question Vick was the number 1 QB on the free agent market. And by signing him we can't lose in the sense that if Smith is the QB long term for this team he should be able to beat out Vick. If he can't then we know what we have with Smith and we will have a QB who can definitely play the game - as long as he stays healthy (big ?). Maybe Walter has a dog and that's it. I have one but I believe in second chances and Vick seems genuinely remorseful.

As for Decker, he refers to him as an overrated number 1 but we paid him as a number 2. By the way, Deckers numbers weren't bad with Tebow throwing to him either. And if we can land a true deep threat, he will be the perfect compliment to him. Very good signing.

Not sure who the better RT is as opinions vary, but we saved good money on the exchange.

Where Idzik did screw up is obviously on CB. Cromartie was pretty bad last year so upgrading that position was not hard to do and he blew it. But we may get lucky when it comes time to release players based on cap issues in June.

We need to try and get DeSean so we don't have to take a receiver in the first round and can take either one of the top CB's like Dennard or, if they are gone, a TE like Amaro. I know everyone loves Ebron but I think Amaro is the better TE for the Jets (check his numbers, size and attitude). Then take some CB's in later rounds. Sherman was a third round pick or maybe even lower. They do exist.
