Jetsfan115 Icon : (29 April 2016 - 09:02 PM) Or giving up on geno
Jetsfan115 Icon : (29 April 2016 - 09:02 PM) I said the rumor was they liked him more then cook
Mr_Jet Icon : (29 April 2016 - 11:35 PM) I know I'm biased, but I've seen them both play. Cook is just better. Hackenberg had one good year. Cook has won more games, played in big games and won them....whatever, its done now so no sense on dwelling on it I guess. I just don't see the appeal in Hackenberg, nice kid, but I always thought he was really overrated. Oh well. I would have taken Kevin Hogan over Hackenberg.
azjetfan Icon : (30 April 2016 - 03:47 PM) From what I have read so far he had a great freshman year under Obrien in a pro style offense. At that point some considered him the next Andrew luck. Then Obrien left and they shifted to a spread under new HC who did poor job bringing in talent. He was also sacked and hit a million times. Might be shell shocked.
Smedsthejet Icon : (01 May 2016 - 06:17 AM) But Chan Gailey runs a spread system - still, I'm comfortable with the Hackenberg pick seeing as Gailey will develop the system to suit his strength... I'm just glad that we passed on Paxton Lynch in the first...we still desperately need Fitz to re-sign though
azjetfan Icon : (01 May 2016 - 07:14 PM) From my understanding the spread in college and the spread in NFL are not the same principals. I really think it was more of a talent issue and getting sacked 80 times in 2 years that did him in. I have no idea if he will make it. I don't follow college ball enough to to know. Theses are just things I read in articles.
Jetsfan115 Icon : (02 May 2016 - 10:24 AM) I'm stoked about getting peake in the 7th round. that was a steal. he was a projected 3rd rounder. wonder what scared teams away

Jetsfan115 Icon : (02 May 2016 - 06:06 PM) Listed as a RB had more bench presses and highest vertical of anyone this year. Hasn't played football since high school and apparently not very smart
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (03 May 2016 - 05:16 PM) The Jets had Hackenberg as their #2 rated QB
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (03 May 2016 - 05:16 PM) Apparently, they loved Golf and tried to trade up. When that failed, their #2 QB was Hackenberg, they fell in love with his football IQ
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (03 May 2016 - 05:17 PM) It would be a mistake to start him right away, hes a guy who needs development. He has the talent, and apparently he has good leadership skills and football IQ. His mechanics are off though

So with all the top Wrs gone. Whats left for us?

Quote

1. DeSean Jackson (signed with redskins)
2. Eric Decker (Signed five-year, $36.25M deal with NYJ)
3. Jeremy Maclin (Re-signed one-year, $5.5M deal with PHI)

5. Julian Edelman (Re-signed four-year, $17M deal with NE)
6. Golden Tate (Signed five-year, $31M deal with DET)
7. Anquan Boldin (Re-signed two-year, $12M deal with SF)

8. Steve Smith (Signed three-year, $11M deal with BAL)

9. Santonio Holmes

10. James Jones (Signed three-year, $11.3M deal with OAK)
11. Andre Roberts (Signed four-year, $16M deal with WAS)
12. Emmanuel Sanders (Signed three-year, $15M deal with DEN)
13. Riley Cooper (Re-signed five-year, $25M deal with PHI)

14. Sidney Rice
15. Jacoby Jones (Re-signed four-year, $12M deal with BAL)

17. Brandon LaFell (Signed three-year, $11M deal with NE)
18. Kenny Britt
19. Miles Austin
20. Damian Williams
21. Jerricho Cotchery (Signed five-year, $8.015M deal with CAR)
22. Ted Ginn (Signed three-year, $9.75M deal with ARZ)

23. Danario Alexander

24. Lance Moore (Signed two-year deal with PIT)
25. Jerome Simpson (Re-signed one-year deal with MIN)
26. Jacoby Ford
27. Robert Meachem
28. Earl Bennett
29. Austin Collie

30. Jason Avant

31. Joe Morgan (Re-signed one-year deal with NO)
32. Andre Caldwell (Re-signed two-year, $3.45M deal with DEN)
33. Santana Moss (Re-signed one-year deal with WAS)
34. Marc Mariani (Re-signed one-year deal with TEN)
35. Josh Morgan

36. Nate Burleson
37. Mario Manningham (Signed one-year deal with NYG)
38. Darrius Heyward-Bey
39. Domenik Hixon (Signed one-year deal with CHI)
40. Tiquan Underwood (Signed two-year, $2.5M deal with CAR)
41. Devin Hester (Signed three-year deal with ATL)
42. Lavelle Hawkins
43. Dezmon Briscoe
44. Kevin Ogletree (Re-signed one-year, $795K deal with DET)
45. Louis Murphy (Signed one-year deal with TB)
46. Davone Bess
47. Josh Cribbs

So based off that list, here are our options

1) bring back holmes - he knows the offense, shouldn't be too expensive and would probably sign a 1 year deal at this point.

2) sidney rice - has talent, but hasn't produced for a few years. also has injury concerns

3) kenny britt - IMO not a good fit. Not that talented and a ton of headaches.

4) miles austin - same as rice

5) Denario alexander - had a great year for SD then got injured last year. could be a decent grab.

I believe Britt signed with The Rams yesterday. I also would put Holmes in the injury area. Signing what is left in FA would only reduce practice/Playing time for whomever we draft. Rice is the only guy who I would have any intrest in. Holmes is a diva.

yeah but rookie WRs in general don't do well. we should still draft one for the future, I just don't want to rely on one for this season. Alexander might be a good grab though https://www.youtube....h?v=M-xF6ol_aSU

What does that have to do with anything? I'm well aware of that. Alexander is young and a big target and plays the ball very well in the air. He can easily be here for 3-4 years and will provide geno a target that fights for the ball. You want geno to get sanchez syndrome having nobody to throw to? as it stands geno is our future QB, you gotta give him targets not named david clowny to throw to if you get my drift. and yes i know he isn't on the team, i was referring to when we drafted sanchez and we had the shittiest group of WRs i've ever seen. chansi stucky? clowney? it was a joke. I don't want to see that happen to geno

You said rookie WRs don't do well. I am saying they should play now and get the experience versus bringing in some hack.

We signed 2 WRs in FA, we don't need to sign another. We need to draft a WR high that can start right away. We did better than expected in FA at WR, since we got the best WR available.

Draft Odell Beckham or Brandin Cooks at 18.

Fair enough, but what about our young QB? assuming he beats out vick then we need to give him people to throw to. If lets say vick starts for us, then we would be in a "win now" mode and you'd want him to have weapons if your gonna try and make a push.

Honestly Qb was our biggets issue last year. geno did some good things, but he also lost us some games. If vick can have a monster year like his 1st year when he came back, there is no reason we couldn't compete

No, I'm pretty sure FlyHi was the "biggets" issue last year...

The current roster has veterans. These guys are close to what is out there. Let's not under estimate what game time experience will do for our young guys. IMO Vick will be starting this year until around week 8 when he gets his egg scrambled for the 10th time. We are not in a win now mode. Idziks mentality will never be win now. He is not wired that way. He will build a team that can win for the long term.

Nice. But I wasn't actually bigoted anywhere. I never said any racist or bigoted comments. My comments were anti-illegal alien. That's people from all races so while your comment is funny, it still fails.

I know this will not be popular but if Bortles, Manziel or Bridgewater is available when we draft at 18 we should grab one. This game today is a QB game. One franchise QB is worth 10 years of playoffs. If anyone out there believes Geno is the guy then God Bless You. I don't say he isn't but for sure I don't have any confidence that he is. WR's are very very deep and we can get one in round 2. True, our TE situation sucks but maybe one can be gotten in later rounds. I would love Manziel or Bortles. I don't think they will be around but you never know. If not then Beckham or Cooks would be great but I would try and trade down and take Jace Amaro who I believe will be better than Ebron.

I don't like taking a QB with the first 2 picks. If those guys were in the 2012 draft they would not even be known by most. They are artificially inflated due to demand of the position. BTW I still say we are taking a CB in the first round.

Knew it was a 115 post since the recommendation is to bring Holmes back.

The idea that the game is QB or receiver driven is overrated. The game is still OLine and defense driven. The rules turn medium talent into bog producers. The loser teams are the ones still trying to overdraft "skill position" players while smart teams are taking the guys who overcome the rules and piecing in the rest.
