Posted 7 Jan 2014Agree with SHJ as well. Bad teams draft by position. Good ones take the best available player. With our cap space so good, we should sign our own players who we want to retain (Howard, Folk, Colon, maybe Pace), extend Wilkerson, and use the balance to buy position players we don't get in the draft. Sure would love to buy Jarius Byrd or Grimes/Talib. And we need a guard badly.
Only issue would be if the best on our board when our turn comes is a defensive lineman in which case we look to trade down and if that fails, then and only then possibly skip to the next player on the list who isn't on the defensive line.
Kelvin Benjamin from Fla. St. would be a good addition if Evans and Watkins are off by the time we draft but Ebron, the TE would be huge for us. He is potentially another Vernon Davis.
Kelvin Benjamin**, WR, Florida State
Height: 6-5. Weight: 234.
Projected 40 Time: 4.55.
Eric Ebron*, TE, North Carolina
Height: 6-4. Weight: 245.
Projected 40 Time: 4.65.
I m taking Kelvin Benjamin over Ebron because Benjamin has created matchup problems all year versus the opposing team's corners and safteies ( Watch BCS Game), Red zone security blanket for Winston (Imagine what Geno can do throwing the ball to Benjamin?), Runs consistently good routes, great at catching the football at its high point, Benjamin would be a great compliment to Kerley and David Nelson and has been under the radar due to the large amount of talent at WR in this year's draft.

Ed Reed began his career with both Rex Ryan and Mike Pettine in Baltimore now Mike Pettine is in Buffalo and Rex Ryan is in New York. The Jets could use some secondary help and guess who is campaigning to play in NY? Yep you guessed it Ed Reed: @Steiny31: Ed Reed on Rex: “I would play anywhere with Rex: In dark alley, in street, high school or sandlot. I love Rex & always will” #nyj
Posted 29 Oct 2013Would rather build through the draft and try to grab someone like Sammy Watkins or Mike Evans (whose salary would be low and locked in for a few years), as opposed to tying up $18 million in a new acquisition.
The 4-4 start shouldn't steer the front office off course from their plan to build the talent pool through the draft.
There is no guarantee the JETS can draft either Watkins or Evans; plus trading for Fitzgerald wont cost $18 million considering that the Cardinals save just $8 million so they are still on the hook for $10 million in a trade for Fitzgerald besides you know what you get with Fitzgerald as oppose to a rookie who has to develop. Fitzgerald is that Veteran Pro Bowler/security blanket for Geno
