Posts I've Made
Posted 13 Aug 2016I'd relax, he may have been rusty because he was there just got beat. Allen Robinson is a really good WR.Its also preseason, let him make the mistakes now.
Posted 30 Jan 2016I share a different opinion. I felt like if we made the playoffs, we could have made noise. But we have some obvious holes that kept this team from really being elite. And we also had a easy schedule, but we had a top 10 offense and defeense.
I think they missed a opportunity, the AFC wasn't that strong and we could have made some noise. This team needs to improve if they want to make noise next season, we have some key players that are FAs and can't bring everyone back. I think Todd Bowles had a pretty good first year as a HC, when this team was falling apart he made changes and got this team back on track and a game away from finishing 11-5 and making the playoffs. It sucks that 10-6 doesn't make it.
Chan Gailey did a good job overall as OC. He has a history of maximizing players and getting productive offenses, plus hes old and won't become a HC again so there is a chance he could stick for a while.
Maccagnan did a good job as GM, but he had a ton of money to spend last year. It will be harder this year because we have a lot of key players that are UFA and we don't have enough money to sign all of them back. Hard choices will be made, this offseason will say a lot about Maccagnan as a GM. Also, this will be the first draft that we will get to see the new scouting department really make their mark.
Notable FAs that were key players last season.
I left Demario Davis off because he isn't good and I don't think the Jets want him back anyways, he was getting replaced by Henderson (who the Jets are trying to re-sign).
I do not see how they will re-sign Ivory, he had a probowl season and some team will probably offer more than we can. His running style wears him out and he'll be 28 next season.
Fitzpatrick will be back, he had a career year being with a OC he is comfortable with and the best offensive weapons he has had. Hes a good bridge QB, after years of terrible QB play it was nice watching a team with a QB who was competent. Our OL was pretty bad yet he was rarely sacked, that is because he was good at avoiding sacks. Our OL was our biggest problem on offense. James Carpenter ended up being a great signing, he was arguably our best linemen last season. Brick and Breno were terrible at OT.
Defensively we need to get better at LB. Its our biggest weakness on defense and holds them back at times. We need edge pressure. I think Mauldin can be a starter for us, but we need someone opposite him.
I like Marcus Williams, I think he can start at CB for us. He reminds me of Asante Samuel, he has a nose for getting INTs. Our safeties are good.
Idk if we can re-sign Harrison and Wilkerson. But I think Harrison is extremely important, you need a good NT for a 3-4 and Harrison is a 350 lb beast in the middle. We have Richardson and Williams who are both really good and talented players to replace Wilkerson, we don't have anyone to replace Harrison. I hope we re-sign both, but we might not be able to.
Bowles started using Richardson as a OLB last season, he is freakishly athletic but that isn't maximizing his abilities. So having RIchardson, Wilkerson, and Williams is a waste. The team has to make a decision regarding Wilkerson and Richardson. Richardson is risky with the off field stuff and probably will face a suspension next season, but hes probably more talented than Wilkerson and won't get as good of a draft pick in return due to the off the field troubles. Wilkerson is elite and isn't a problem off the field, so hes safer. But he might get a higher pick in return right now.
Williams will be elite, he had a great rookie season and generated a ton of pressure. I see a future all pro.
