Topics I've Started
Posted 10 Mar 2015The Jets, Miami and Buffalo all improved their rosters. And New England's got weaker. And yet, if opening day was tomorrow, who here actually thinks New England isn't winning the division? Can anyone guess why?
I'll answer it for you. Because New England has Tom Brady. And the other three teams don't. The Jets and Buffalo have NO quarterback, while Miami has a promising but unproven one. And if you don't have an established, franchise quarterback, you don't have a chance.
But what if the Jets could get a competent quarterback? Could they compete for wild card? I think so.
I wanted Nick Foles. But after today, that possibility appears dead. But let me throw another name at you:
Matt Schaub. He is currently rotting away on Oakland's bench. He can't put a team on his shoulders. So if his team is down 17-0, the chances are bleak. But Schaub has proven that with a strong running game and O line (the Jets best signing might be Seattle's guard Carpenter) he can function within an offense and utilize his strong play-action game. He won 12 games one season and I believe 10 in another. Now, most people will recall his final season in Houston when he crumbled. There is no disputing that. But, I won't judge the player on one season.
Like I wrote, he can't put a team on his back. But he could help the Jets become relevant again and contend for a wildcard. He's a good manager and better than Geno Smith, Ryan Fitzpatrick or Sam Bradford.
