Geno To Start?
Posted 13 May 2013

According to the New York Post, the Jets are "smitten" with Geno Smith, and it's "beginning to look more and more (likely)" he'll win the starting job.
Reporter Brian Costello came to his conclusion after talking to people "around the team" during Jets' rookie minicamp. Per Costello, Smith had "great zip" on his throws, and "held players’ only meetings at the team hotel" to break down the playbook. Costello believes there's a "sense around the Jets that they want Smith to win this thing," and that Mark Sanchez isn't long for the roster. We'd guess the same thing. May 13 - 9:14 AM

Nice Mornhinweg Tidbit

New Jets OC Marty Mornhinweg's offenses have ranked in the top ten in yards-per-carry average eight times in Mornhinweg's 13 seasons as an NFL head coach or offensive coordinator.
The Jets are trying to get more athletic on the O-Line because Mornhinweg loves outside runs. "We're putting in more perimeter runs which has been Marty's thing, get some speed out there," coach Rex Ryan explained. "... We're pulling those guys and I think we are more athletic, especially at that guard spot." New feature back Chris Ivory has plenty of speed to beat linebackers to the edge.

Draft insider Tony Pauline warns to "mark down" UCLA RB Johnathan Franklin as a second-round target by the Jets.
The team is "very high on the RB and a terrific fit for Mornhinweg's offense," Pauline tweeted. Along with the Jets, Pauline listed the Cincinnati Bengals, Miami Dolphins, St. Louis Rams and San Diego Chargers as possible destinations. -
Nick Foles

He's clearly not a good fit for Chip Kelly's offense and the kid could be good. Prototypical size with a big arm, he might be worth a shot.

The Associated Press reports that the Eagles would want a first- or second-round pick to "even consider" trading Nick Foles.
The AP's story cites an "NFL source," which is clearly in the Eagles organization and using the media in an attempt to create leverage. Foles' trade value is not a first- or second-round pick, and the Eagles know that. But they intend to feign the impression that it is, and that there's "no way" they'd trade Foles without being offered a top-two-round draft pick. We suspect Foles will be traded for a third- or fourth-rounder closer to April's draft. In the meantime, the Eagles will pretend Foles is part of Chip Kelly's long-term plan.

Ezekiel Ansah

The more I see of this kid the more I like. He seems to have great footspeed and instincts, but the knock on him is 1 year of production and very little football experience (and could he transition to OLB?). I know he's been talked about on the board before, but he could rocket up draft boards after the combine and he impresses me more than Mingo. Ansah, Jarvis Jones, Mingo, Jordan, Moore (unlikely but possible), any combination of these players will likely be available to us at 9. It'll be an interesting first round.
