Coles Takes a Parting Shot at the QBs?

Rich Cimini updated The Jets Stream with some information from the Cincinnati Bengals’ press conference to introduce WR Laveranues Coles as the replacement to T.J. Houshmandzadeh.
“Former Jets WR Laveranues Coles, meeting the Cincinnati media on Thursday, said the Jets called back before he signed with the Bengals. But he made it sound like it wasn’t a very serious offer to re-sign him. Coles hinted that the Jets’ unsettled QB situation might have factored into his decision to split.
‘I know I wanted to play with a good quarterback,’ he said, alluding to Carson Palmer. ‘That was one of the biggest (considerations) in where I wanted to go.’”
In vintage Coles fashion, his words come off as a cheap shot. His remarks aren’t exactly scathing, but they do raise eyebrows.
Why would Coles say he “wanted to play with a good quarterback” after being asked about the unsettled quarterback situation in New York?
It’s no secret to anyone. There is some peril with the QB situation in New York. No one on the Jets is as proven or established as Carson Palmer, but to imply that his reasons for leaving are anything more than financial security is not genuine.
Coles wanted a long-term contract to close out his career. The $6 million he was guaranteed to make in 2009 wasn’t the kind of security he was hoping for. That’s understandable.
But to say he wanted to play with a good QB makes it sound as if he had no faith in the current QBs on the roster.
He believed the Jets final offer to re-sign him wasn’t legitimate, and followed it up with a slick remark.
Perhaps Coles’ comments are being taken out of context. Maybe he was expressing his excitement with playing for a new team. But there are so many other ways that could’ve been worded.
As it stands, Coles should succeed in Cincy. He’s not being asked to go to the Bengals and be the man. The offense will be worked to his strengths.
While Ocho Cinco commands attention and double teams, Coles will have the opportunity to cross the middle and be great the possession receiver he always has beem.
It’s going to be exciting when Coles and the Bengals return to the Meadowlands in 2009, that’s for sure.

forget coles were good with cotchery and clowney and it will be nice if we can make a deal with the ravens to get troy smith and also get a fast receiver at the draft
